THERE’S BEEN A LOT OF advance publicity for Hyundai’s quirky and cute new light SUV, the INSTER. Now, Hyundai has released more comprehensive details.
All-new INSTER delivers stylish, futuristic design inside and out, ample driving range, and an array of leading-edge technologies in a smart, compact package.
Inside, the ultra-flexible interior includes bench-style front seating, and 50:50 split-fold rear seats which also slide and recline, maximising space and versatility.
INSTER is packed with features, including a 10.25-inch full digital instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch multimedia touchscreen, Bluelink Connected Car Services, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless charging, and an extensive Hyundai SmartSense suite as standard.
A 71.1kW Standard Range version with single-speed reduction gear, front-wheel drive, and a 42kWh battery brings up to 327km of range on a charge (WLTP).
The Extended Range version brings 84.5kW, combined with a 49kWh battery, for up to 360km of range (WLTP). Fast-charge capability enables a charge from 10 to 80 percent in as little as 30 minutes.
INSTER is offered in three trim levels, with an exclusive Roof Basket option pack offered for the adventure-focused INSTER Cross variant bringing further versatility and style.

Model Range Overview
All-new INSTER is Hyundai’s range-opening electric vehicle, yet sets a high standard for features in line with a rapidly evolving market and ever-increasing customer expectations.
Three trims grades are offered, starting with the highly equipped INSTER Standard Range featuring a 42kWh battery.
INSTER Extended Range offers a 49kWh battery and rides on larger, 17-inch alloy wheels.
INSTER Cross is ideal for customers looking for an outdoor-inspired electric vehicle, with a Roof Basket Option Pack exclusively offered for this variant.
EXTERIOR
Compact and distinctive INSTER goes all-in on design to make a bold impression on the EV landscape.
Round pixel LED headlamps, pixel-graphic turn signals, and a muscular skid plate make a futuristic yet playful first impression.
The striking expression is further emphasised by a black circuit board-style bumper, round LED daytime running lights, and stylish 15- and 17-inch alloy wheel designs.
The rugged wheel arches with distinctive cladding contrast with clean surfaces to add a sporty flair, accentuating INSTER’s signature SUV silhouette.
At the rear, INSTER continues its futuristic aesthetic with Parametric Pixel LED combination lamps, rectangular LED turn signals, and circular reflectors. A silver skid plate completes the look, while adding a touch of rugged sophistication.
The application of eco-friendly high-gloss recycled paint, made from recycled waste tires, furthers INSTER’s environmental credentials.

INSTER’s interior is headlined by a 10.25-inch digital cluster and a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen with navigation.
The cleverly crafted cabin provides optimal comfort with a bench-style front seat, compact centre console, and flexible sliding and reclining, 50:50 split-folding rear seats, for maximum legroom.
INSTER Cross brings the further ability to fold all four seats flat, for even more versatility.

POWERTRAIN
INSTER is powered by a single motor driving the front wheels that produces 71.1kW in the Standard Range variant and 84.5kW in the Extended Range.
INSTER’s Standard Range 42kWh battery brings a driving range of 327km (15-inch wheels). The Extended Range model’s 49kWh battery extends up to 360km (17-inch wheels). Whilst the INSTER Cross comes exclusively with the 49kWh extended-range battery.
When plugged into a DC high-power charging station, delivering 120kW or more, INSTER can fast-charge from 10 to 80 percent in as little as 30 minutes.

Adjustable regenerative braking lets the driver tailor the flow and efficiency of their drive using paddle shifters, for an enhanced battery boost in traffic or a smoother cruise on the open road.
INSTER’s Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality lets customers charge or power devices such as electric bicycles, scooters and camping equipment anywhere they go.
REFINEMENT AND NVH
INSTER has been designed with a focus on driving enjoyment while maximising the exemplary refinement and smoothness that’s only possible in an EV.
Noise, vibration and harshness performance has been minimised through measures including the application of double seals for the doors, thick front door glass, the optimisation of airflow around the headlamp strip, and the application of a front underbody cover, which also reduces drag.
Advanced hydro bushings for the electric motor body mount improve ride quality and reduce vibration compared with conventional rubber bushings. The hydro bushing design achieves this by absorbing impact energy through the movement of fluid.
INSTER delivers optimal body control and shock absorption through the application of high-performance dampers.
High-speed driving comfort also benefits from a reinforced steering system mounting structure, an optimised steering damper, and a steering wheel designed to minimise the transfer of vibration.
INSTER’s power electronics system, including the motor, inverter and gear speed reducer, is optimised with a focus on high-frequency noise control.
Specific tuning of the inflow of high-frequency noise to the cabin, along with optimised sound absorption materials, ensures a quiet and smooth ride.
HYUNDAI SMARTSENSE
INSTER is fitted with a comprehensive suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) as standard, including an advanced FCA 1.5 function, Intelligent Speed Limit Assist (ISLA), and Highway Driving Assist (HDA).
INSTER Cross also features additional ADAS systems including Blind-Spot View Monitor (BVM) and a Surround View Monitor (SVM).
Blind-Spot Collision Avoidance-Assist (BCA)
Blind-Spot Collision Avoidance-Assist (BCA) provides a visual alert the driver to the presence of traffic in the blind-spot area.
When a turn signal is engaged, such as when changing lane or exiting a parallel parking space, BCA will sound an alert, and can apply braking assistance to help prevent a collision.
Driver Attention Warning (DAW)
The Driver Attention Warning system alerts the driver when it identifies a driving pattern that indicates they are tired or distracted. DAW uses the windscreen-mounted camera to continually monitor the vehicle’s position in the lane, while tracking steering and brake pedal use, as well as time since the driver took a break.
Forward Collision Avoidance Assist 1.5 (FCA 1.5) – Junction Turning
Forward Collision Avoidance Assist 1.5 alerts the driver and provides automatic braking assistance when there is a collision risk with a vehicle, pedestrian or cyclist.
The system uses the windscreen-mounted camera and front radar to detect sudden braking by the car ahead, or the presence of pedestrians or bicycles.
In addition, if, when turning into oncoming traffic at a junction, there is a risk of collision with an oncoming car, motorcycle or cyclist, INSTER will issue a warning and can apply emergency braking if needed.
High Beam Assist (HBA)
High Beam Assist lets INSTER scan the road for the lights of vehicles ahead, to automatically adjust the headlights from high to low beam and back, to avoid dazzling the occupants of other vehicles.
Highway Driving Assist (HDA)
Highway Driving Assist uses the windscreen-mounted camera, radar and navigation data, to assist the driver to maintain a set speed and distance from the vehicle ahead, while keeping INSTER centred in the lane, making long drives smooth and relaxed.
In-Cabin Camera (ICC)
The In-Cabin Camera monitors the driver’s face for signs of drowsiness or inattention. If the driver is not fully focused, it will provide an alert or initiate preventative action, to help avoid a collision.
Intelligent Speed Limit Assist (ISLA)
Intelligent Speed Limit Assist combines road sign recognition – using the windscreen-mounted camera – with navigation data, to inform the driver of the current speed limit.
If the recognised speed limit changes during Smart Cruise Control or Manual Speed Limit Assist operation, a corresponding increase or decrease speed message is displayed in the cluster prompting the driver to adjust the set speed using the +/- SCC steering wheel buttons, to stay within the speed limit.
Lane Following Assist (LFA)
Lane Following Assist provides steering assistance to keep INSTER centred in the lane. If the vehicle strays from the lane without a turn signal engaged, the system will issue audible and visual warnings.
Lane Keeping Assist – Line/Road-Edge (LKA-L/R)
Lane Keeping Assist uses the windscreen-mounted camera to detect lane markings, the road edge, and vehicles ahead, to help keep INSTER centred in the lane by providing a warning or steering assistance as required.
Manual Speed Limit Assist (MSLA)
Manual Speed Limit Assist (MSLA) assists the driver in pre-setting a speed limit for the vehicle, which is helpful in situations with reduced speed limits, such as school zones or roadworks.
Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCCA)
Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist underpins safe reversing manoeuvres in situations where the driver doesn’t have a clear view.
The system will alert the driver with sounds and visuals if a vehicle is approaching from either side, and can automatically apply the brakes to help prevent a collision.
Rear Occupant Alert (ROA)
The Rear Occupant Alert system provides warnings to prevent the unintentional locking in or leaving behind of children or pets.
When active, the system detects the entry of occupants from the opening of the rear doors. Upon parking and opening the driver’s door, ROA issues an audible alert and displays a warning in the cluster, to ensure rear occupants are not left behind.
Safe Exit Warning (SEW)
The Safe Exit Warning system detects vehicles approaching from the rear to provide visual and audible warnings when it may be unsafe for occupants to exit the vehicle.
Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control – Curve (NSCC-C)
Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control can help the driver maintain a safe speed when driving on highways by automatically decelerating the vehicle or limiting acceleration when negotiating curves, as required, using curve data from the navigation system.
Blind-Spot View Monitor (BVM) – INSTER Cross variant
When a turn signal is activated, the Blind-Spot View Monitor presents a camera view from the corresponding side of the vehicle on the 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster.
Compared with conventional side mirrors, BVM provides a viewing angle that is approximately twice as large.
Surround View Monitor (SVM) – INSTER Cross variant
Surround View Monitor displays multiple views of INSTER to assist with maneuvering, parking and driving.
These include 360-degree view, 3D view and top view with guide-lines, as well as car wash entering mode, driving rear-view mode and more, all designed to maximise driver confidence and convenience.
Reverse Parking Collision Avoidance (PCA-R) – INSTER Cross variant
Parking Collision-avoidance Assist-Reverse warns the driver if there is the risk of collision with a pedestrian or object while reversing into or out of a parking space, and will assist with emergency braking if necessary to avoid a collision.
Parking Distance Warning (PDW-F) – INSTER Cross variant
The Parking Distance Warning system alerts the driver to the presence of pedestrians or objects in front of the vehicle, to help prevent a collision during low-speed driving.
