IN THE SHAPE OF THE NEW C 350 e plug-in hybrid sedan, Mercedes-Benz brings together the enduring appeal of a traditional Mercedes-Benz with the cutting-edge technology of a modern-day hybrid.
The new Mercedes-Benz C 350 e is powered by an advanced hybrid system that combines a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine (up to 150kW and 320Nm) with an electric motor (up to 95kW and 440Nm). This combination provides a total maximum system output of 230kW and 550Nm, along with a smooth nine-speed automatic transmission delivering power to the rear wheels.
The 25.4kWh lithium-ion battery pack offers an impressive all-electric NEDC-tested range of 104km, meaning most city commutes can be completed on electric-only power. When the battery is depleted or additional power is required, the petrol engine kicks in, while kinetic energy of over 100kW is recovered through recuperation when decelerating or driving downhill.
The hybrid technology seamlessly integrates the two power sources to deliver a driving experience that is both exhilarating and efficient. Acceleration from zero to 100 km/h is completed in just 6.1 seconds.
Latest hybrid technology for energy efficiency
The new Mercedes-Benz C 350 e uses a route-based operating strategy to optimise energy consumption by activating the electric driving mode where this is most appropriate for the route, such as in urban areas. When a destination is programmed into the navigation system, the car’s intelligent system considers navigation data, topography, speed limits and the traffic conditions to manage the charging and discharging of the high-voltage battery to ensure efficient energy use throughout the journey.
A driver wishing to influence the energy recovery rate can do so directly in three stages controlled by rocker switches behind the steering wheel. This is possible in all driving modes except SPORT. In the driving mode D-, for example, the driver can experience the ‘one-pedal feeling‘ – when the driver takes their foot off the accelerator, the vehicle slows down, purely by electric means, to such an extent that the hydraulic foot brake is often not needed. The brake pedal feels natural, with the transition between regenerative and conventional braking being almost imperceptible. The operating strategy communicates with the sensors of the assistance systems and thus efficiently supports the driver in many driving situations.
Exterior and interior highlights
The C 350 e bears the sleek and sophisticated lines that are a hallmark of the class, with a profile both aerodynamic and sporty: sculpted hood, LED headlamps, and a diamond-block grille that projects refinement. The rear end is characterised by the signature LED taillights, providing a distinctively Mercedes-Benz look.
Inside the C 350 e’s cabin the C-Class standard means high-quality materials, meticulous craftsmanship, and an ergonomic layout that prioritizes comfort and ease of use. The dashboard features a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a matching infotainment display featuring the latest MBUX functionality. This intuitive interface allows drivers to interact with the car using voice commands, gestures, or the touchpad.
Space is at a premium, with plenty of legroom for passengers and a generous trunk that benefits from the battery’s intelligent positioning. The location of the battery under the rear bench also means that there is no step in the boot, which not only enhances the aesthetics but also allows for through-loading, making it practical for carrying larger items.
Extensive standard features
In addition to the standard equipment found in the C 300, the C 350 e comes with further standard features including augmented reality for navigation, DIGITAL LIGHT Package including Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus, Burmester 3D surround sound system, Driving Assistance Package Plus and Comfort Suspension with self-levelling suspension at the rear.
These features supplement standard equipment including AMG Line Exterior, 18” AMG alloy wheels, panoramic sunroof, AMG Line Interior, head up display, heated and memory front seats, Ambient Lighting Plus, Parking Package with 360-degree camera and KEYLESS-GO Convenience Package.
Charging equipment and speeds
Two cables are included as standard – a charging cable for wallbox and public charging stations, and a cable for home charging from a domestic socket.
The standard vehicle offers AC charging up to 11kW for a zero to 100 percent charge in approximately two hours. DC charging, available as a cost option, allows the vehicle to be charged up to 55 kW in addition to AC charging, with a zero to 80 percent charge achieved in approximately 20 minutes.
Pricing
The new Mercedes-Benz C 350 e is available to order starting 7th May 2025 and retails at $98,200 (plus on road costs). Optional DC charging adds $1500.
