THE ALL-NEW VOLKSWAGEN TAYRON LARGE SUV will arrive in Australia in September, ideally placed between the Tiguan and Touareg, offering the flexibility of both five- and seven-seat configurations.
Echoing the ‘mini Touareg’ ethos of its sibling, the recently-launched, third-generation Tiguan, the Tayron boasts a premium cabin design, material choices and a quality fit and finish, combined with elegant exterior design and the latest infotainment and safety technology inclusions.
Volkswagen introduces the Tayron range with the 110TSI Life, offering 110kW of power and 250Nm of torque in a front-wheel drive configuration and mated to a 7-speed Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG): the same wet-clutch 7-speed DSG found not only in the all-new Tiguan, but also performance models like the Golf GTI and Golf R. Good for a braked towing capacity of 1800kg, the 7-seat 110TSI Life is motivated with a level of TSI engine efficiency, refinement and performance that belies its entry positioning.
The 110TSI Life features standard 18-inch ‘Bologna’ alloy wheels, keyless access with alarm, power tailgate, Area View 360-degree camera, Digital Cockpit Pro (widescreen driver display), 12.9-inch touchscreen with satellite navigation, wireless App-Connect, wireless smartphone charging and DAB+ digital radio.
Volkswagen’s leading Travel Assist (incorporating adaptive cruise control and Lane Assist for semi-autonomous and stop-and-go driving), Front Assist with pedestrian and cyclist monitoring and Side Assist with rear traffic alert are also standard.
They join side exit warning, front cross-traffic assist, oncoming vehicle braking when turning with swerve support, Park Assist Plus (with semi-autonomous steering and throttle/braking to park), nine airbags (including centre) and Dynamic Road Sign Assist.
The Life grade is also offered in 150TSI guise, uniquely bringing a five-seat configuration to the mix to combine the cavernous load space of a wagon, with the practicality and user comfort of an SUV bodystyle.
This additional luggage capacity – 885 litres – coupled with the performance of the 150kW, 2.0-litre turbocharged engine with 4MOTION all-wheel drive, makes the 150TSI Life perfect for buyers who prioritise space. Towing performance also gets a boost from the 150TSI powertrain, rated at 2500kg braked.
Reverting back to a seven-seat configuration, the 150TSI Elegance is the new family favourite, offering a dose of extra style, and building further on Tayron’s premium credentials.
The 150TSI Elegance adds 19-inch ‘Catania’ alloy wheels, leather-appointed seat upholstery, front ‘ergoActive’ seats with power adjustment, heating, ventilation, memory and massage, heated outer second row seats, heated steering wheel, LED Plus headlights with illuminated grille strip, LED tail-lights with illuminated centre strip, chrome roof rails and trim, and rear privacy glass.
Following in the all-new Tiguan’s footsteps, the Tayron range will have it all in the flagship 195TSI R-Line: echoes of Golf GTI performance and handling, sports styling and the highest levels of interior appointments for families.
Included on the 195TSI R-Line are 20-inch ‘Leeds’ alloy wheels, R-Line interior and exterior styling, progressive steering, 15.0-inch Discover Pro Max navigation, head-up display, Harman Kardon premium audio, HD Matrix LED headlights, Dynamic Light Assist, and dynamic indicators at the rear.
An enticing level of performance is generated by the 2.0 litre TSI engine as it achieves 195kW of power and 400Nm of torque harnessed through 4MOTION all-wheel drive, making the 195TSI R-Line good for a 0-100km/h time of 6.1 seconds.
Further amplifying Tayron’s premium appeal, the 150TSI Elegance is available fully-optioned a Sound & Vision package (with head-up display, Harman Kardon premium audio, 15-inch Discover Pro Max navigation, HD Matrix LED headlights, Dynamic Light Assist, dynamic indicators at the rear).
Meanwhile, uniquely available on the 195TSI R-Line is the option of a Black Style package, which adds 20-inch ‘York’ alloy wheels, gloss black exterior mirrors, roof rails, roof design strip and R-Line front bumper, and interior design elements with a black/dark anodised finish. Both the 150TSI Elegance and 195TSI R-Line can also be optioned with a panoramic sunroof.
Volkswagen Passenger Vehicles Head of Product, Arjun Nidigallu, said the all-new Tayron will broaden Volkswagen’s customer appeal further.
“Continuing the dual-pronged ‘premium and value’ focus of its all-new, third-generation Tiguan stablemate, while further dialling up the space and practicality credentials, the all-new Tayron allows us to provide our customers a large SUV that boasts both luxury specifications and outstanding customer value.”
“Whether your priorities revolve around room for the family, making the most of the luggage space, towing a trailer over the long weekend, or enjoying a refined, efficient, well-equipped and dynamically-capable car for daily driving, the Tayron has all bases confidently covered.”
Mr. Nidigallu added that the 150TSI and 195TSI variants emphasise the styling, dynamics and overall user experience that Volkswagen customers historically love.
“With the adaptive chassis control technology, DCC Pro, the latest MQB Evo platform, and 4MOTION all-wheel drive, the 150TSI and 195TSI Tayrons are unsurpassed in the mainstream large SUV segment for premium appeal, performance and driving dynamics,” he said.

2025 Volkswagen Tayron highlights
- MQB evo is the latest evolutionary stage of the modular transverse matrix platform bringing a variety of modern technologies to Tayron: premium features such as HD Matrix headlights, new adaptive chassis control DCC Pro standard on 150TSI and 195TSI variants, new driving experience switch and infotainment generation for a more intuitive and logical operating concept.
- The all-new Tayron is equipped as standard with a Vehicle Dynamics Manager – an MQB system that made its debut in the Mk8.0 Golf GTI. The system controls the functions of the Electronic Differential Lock (XDL) and the lateral dynamics components of the controlled shock absorbers in the DCC Pro system. Wheel-specific braking interventions and selective changes in the shock absorber hardness leads to greater comfort and enhanced performance during dynamic cornering. This makes the vehicle handling more stable, agile and precise. With the DCC Pro you can choose from different driving profiles such as Comfort, Sport or Individual.
- In 7-seat variants when the third row is not in use, the luggage compartment capacity is a considerable 850 litres with the third row folded, 150 litres more than the Tiguan Allspace. Choose the 150TSI Life model variant and the unique five seat configuration provides an enormous 885 litres – possessing all the desirable attributes of an SUV with the boot space of a wagon.
- The all-new Tayron is approximately 250mm longer than the all-new, third-generation Tiguan, with a wheelbase that is 110mm longer allowing for third row seating, additional second row space and enormous luggage space. The vehicle length, width have increased over the Tiguan Allspace the all-new Tayron replaces.
- The all-new Tayron will be available at launch in six colours: Pure White, Oyster Silver Metallic, Dolphin Grey Metallic, Night Shade Blue Metallic, Grenadilla Black Metallic, and Ultra Violet Premium Metallic.
