BYD, THE GLOBAL (SELF-PROCLAIMED) LEADER in New Energy Vehicles and a pioneer in battery manufacturing, has announced that the latest addition to the Atto family, the Atto 2, is coming to Australia.
Arriving in Q4, the small-size, fully electric SUV promises to be a game-changer for Australian motorists and further solidifies BYD’s commitment to offering local consumers a choice of cleaner, greener vehicles that over-deliver on value.
The Atto 2 is built on BYD’s industry-leading e-Platform 3.0, which utilises Cell-to-Body (CTB) technology, increasing the chassis’ torsional rigidity by 32 percent and ensuring peerless performance, safety, and efficiency.
Available from launch in two specification levels – Essential and Premium – the Atto 2 is powered by a 51.13kWh Blade battery and a single permanent magnet synchronous motor.
Both specs boast 130kW and 290Nm, with drive being sent to the front wheels through BYD’s 8-in-1 powertrain, which integrates the motor, reducer, motor controller, on-board charger, DC-DC converter, high-voltage distribution unit (PDU), battery management system (BMS), and vehicle control unit (VCU).
This class-leading powertrain not only greatly reduces NVH levels for a peerless driving experience, but also enhances vehicle reliability.
Dynamically, the Atto 2 benefits from a Macpherson strut up front and a torsion beam at the rear, with the suspension tuned for a smooth driving experience that’s equally at home in the urban sprawl or out on the open road.
Visually, the Atto 2 is stylishly designed by BYD’s in-house design studio, helmed by Wolfgang Egger.
The front fascia features powerful LED lights and elegant brightwork surrounds, with smooth lines, short overhangs, and dynamic curves culminating in a delicate balance that bridges playfulness and poise with aplomb.
The Atto 2’s compact yet powerful silhouette is complemented by flush door handles and a sleek floating roofline replete with panoramic sunroof, while the rear of the SUV ups the aesthetic ante with a full-width light bar and a sporty rear spoiler.
Inside, occupants are greeted by a sophisticated, svelte interior packed with amenities that underscore BYD’s bevy of technological innovations.
A multifunction steering wheel is accompanied by an 8.8-inch LCD digital instrument panel, auto-dimming rearview mirror, synthetic leather seats, and BYD’s Intelligent Rotating touch infotainment screen (Dynamic: 10.1-inch; Premium: 12.8-inch).
Like the rest of BYD’s model range, the Atto 2 offers a full suite of safety features, including ADAS, six airbags, and depending on the spec, a reversing or 360-degree surround-view camera system.
The Atto 2 also offers additional modern conveniences, such as Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality, NFC digital key passes, and adaptive cruise control.
“With its exciting looks, superlative technology, and eminent versatility, the Atto 2 promises to be a game-changer in the small-size SUV segment,” Wing You, BYD Australia General Manager, said.
“The Atto family of vehicles is expanding in Australia, and we’re confident this latest addition will be well received by local buyers.”
Full pricing and specs for the Atto 2 will be announced closer to the SUV’s launch later this year.
