FORD HAS RELEASED PRICE AND SPECIFICATION details of the all-new Ranger Super Duty Cab-Chassis variants, which will be available from $82,990 (plus on road costs).
Purpose-built to tackle extreme adventures or the toughest jobs across industries like construction, agriculture, mining and emergency services, Ranger Super Duty brings unprecedented levels of strength, technology, and versatility to the mid-size truck segment, straight from the factory.
Engineered and tested to the extreme, the Ranger Super Duty Cab-Chassis line-up is designed to tow more, carry more, and do more than any other truck in its class – whether for work or adventure.
From its integrated device mounting point to its on-board scales, and sealed snorkel, front and rear differential locks, upgraded axles, suspension and chassis, the Ford engineering team has developed a new kind of Ranger.
“We know our customers want a truck that can handle the toughest jobs and most extreme adventures,” said Andrew Birkic, President and CEO, Ford Australia. “With its incredible towing, payload, and GCM capabilities, Ranger Super Duty is built to exceed those expectations. We’re providing hard-working Australians the tools they need to succeed.”
Payload
A cornerstone of Ranger Super Duty’s capability is its impressive weight ratings.
With a Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) of 4500kg, a maximum braked towing capacity of 4500kg (when fitted with genuine Ford tow equipment), and a commanding 8000kg Gross Combined Mass (GCM), it’s ready for serious work.
Payload is a key strength:
- Single Cab-Chassis: Up to 1982kg
- Super Cab-Chassis: Up to 1896kg
- Double Cab-Chassis: Up to 1825kg
These impressive payload figures are supported by markedly higher Gross Axle Weight Ratings (GAWR), rated at 1900kg for the front axle and 2800kg for the rear axle.
Power and Torque
Powering the Ranger Super Duty is Ford’s proven 3.0-litre V6 turbo-diesel engine. For this application, it receives a unique calibration specifically designed to meet stringent EUVI heavy-duty vehicle emissions requirements, including the addition of AdBlue. Crucially, this calibration retains the engine’s full torque output from its existing Ranger applications, delivering 154kW of power at 3,250 rpm and a robust 600Nm of torque at just 1750 rpm. An upgraded cooling system that is 25% more efficient than existing Ranger product also helps to ensure dependable performance and strong pulling power, even at GVM and GCM.
Power | Torque |
154kW @ 3250 rpm | 600Nm @ 1750 rpm |
Dimensions
Bringing the capability of larger, full-size pick-ups and cab-over trucks to a mid-size pick-up footprint was a key customer request that sparked the development of Ranger Super Duty.
Ford has enhanced the physical dimensions of Ranger Super Duty to maximise capability in demanding Australian conditions. Increased ground clearance, a wider track, and an exceptional water wading depth provide customers with confidence when navigating rugged trails, rough worksites, or deep-water crossings.
Running Ground Clearance (mm) | Track Width (mm) | Water Wading Depth (mm) | |
Single Cab-Chassis | 299 | 1710 | 850 |
Super Cab-Chassis | 297 | 1710 | 850 |
Double Cab-Chassis | 295 | 1710 | 850 |
Full dimensions will be the subject of a future announcement in the coming months.
“The Ranger Super Duty project was about pushing the boundaries of what a mid-size truck can achieve,” said Drew O’Shannassy, Program Supervisor for Ranger Super Duty.
“We focused relentlessly on core capability – increasing GVM, GAWR, and towing capacity – while ensuring the truck remains incredibly durable and easy to operate in challenging environments. The unique calibration of the V6 diesel ensures that crucial torque is available right where our customers need it for heavy loads, while meeting modern emissions standards.”
