VW adds five- and seven-seater Tayron large-ish SUV to range

FILLING EVERY POSSIBLE NICHE in the market, Volkswagen is adding what it calls “the value-packed and feature-rich” all-new Tayron five- and seven-seat SUV to the range, slotting neatly between both the medium-sized Tiguan and fully electric ID. 4 and ID. 5, and the large premium Touareg SUV.

The Volkswagen Tayron range includes the new standard in value packed seven-seaters, the 110TSI Life, complemented by the five-seater 150TSI Life that blends all-wheel drive turbocharged performance, wagon practicality and the commanding view of an SUV. The 150TSI Elegance combines luxury and performance all for under $60,000 (plus on road costs), while the range is capped with the hot-hatch aping 195TSI R-Line that combines classic Volkswagen high performance and dynamics within a spacious family package.

At 4.8-metres long, the Tayron confidently accommodates every lifestyle.

The Tayron 110TSI Life delivers striking value from $48,290 (plus on road costs), with inclusions such as 18-inch ‘Bologna’ alloy wheels, keyless access with alarm, power tailgate, Area View 360-degree camera, Digital Cockpit Pro (widescreen driver display), 12.9-inch infotainment system with satellite navigation, wireless App-Connect, wireless charging and DAB+ digital radio.

Volkswagen’s leading Travel Assist (incorporating Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Assist with adaptive lane guidance for semi-autonomous and stop-and-go driving), Front Assist with Pedestrian and Cyclist Monitoring and Side Assist with Rear Traffic Alert are also standard.

They join Side Exit Warning, Front Cross-Traffic Assist, oncoming vehicle braking when turning with swerve support, Park Assist Plus (with semi-autonomous steering and throttle/braking to park), nine airbags (including centre airbag) and – following the Touareg, Amarok and new Tiguan’s lead – Dynamic Road Sign Assist.

Perfect for families who prioritise space and an adventurous lifestyle, the Tayron 150TSI Life is available from $53,990 (plus on road costs). Fusing the desirability of an SUV with the practicality of a wagon, the unique five-seat configuration of the Tayron 150TSI Life liberates a cavernous 885 litres of luggage capacity, while the standard Offroad driving profile makes it a cinch to finely control acceleration when driving offroad.

It also offers the performance of the 150kW 2.0 litre TSI engine coupled with 4MOTION all-wheel drive and the greater stability, agility and precision that Volkswagen’s DCC Pro continuously adaptive damping delivers. Towing capacity takes a step up, rated at 2500kg braked on models equipped with 4MOTION, ensuring robust performance when towing a boat or trailer even when the whole family is on board.

For customers wanting feature-rich seven-seat family transport, luxury and technology come into focus more than ever with the Tayron 150TSI Elegance from $59,490 (plus on road costs).

The Tayron Elegance adds 19-inch ‘Catania’ alloy wheels, chrome roof rails and trim, rear privacy glass, LED Plus headlights, a heated steering wheel, leather-appointed seat upholstery, plus front comfort sport seats with power adjustment, heating, ventilation, massage and memory function.

Available fully-optioned with a Sound & Vision package (with head-up display, Harman Kardon premium audio, 15-inch Discover Pro Max navigation, HD Matrix LED headlights, Dynamic Light Assist, and dynamic indicators at the rear – a combined $4200 option) and panoramic sunroof ($2100), the 150TSI Elegance sets a new standard among mainstream competitors in the large SUV segment for attainable luxury.

Priced from $73,490 (plus on road costs), the 195TSI R-Line brings segment-leading Golf GTI-like levels of performance and handling dynamics to the three-row SUV, while elevating the sports styling and level of interior appointments to their pinnacle.

A 195kW, 400Nm 2.0-litre turbocharged engine with 4MOTION all-wheel drive guarantees another level of performance, reaching 100km/h in 6.1 seconds.

It builds on 150TSI Elegance equipment levels with inclusions like purposeful R-Line styling enhancements, unique 20-inch ‘Leeds’ alloy wheels, HD Matrix LED headlights, premium LED tail-lights with 3D animation, Harman Kardon premium audio, 15-inch Discover Pro Max navigation, a head-up display, progressive steering, plus an optional panoramic sunroof for $2100.

Also uniquely available on the 195TSI R-Line is the $1500 Black Style option package, which adds 20-inch ‘York’ alloy wheels, gloss black exterior mirrors, roof rails, roof design strip and R-Line front bumper, and interior design elements with a black/dark anodised finish.

Volkswagen Passenger Head of Product, Arjun Nidigallu, said the all-new Tayron builds on the winning ingredients of the all-new Tiguan, with a package that meets and exceeds the demands of families looking for even more space and practicality.

“The all-new Tayron is a highly competitive new entrant in the mainstream Large SUV segment, offering an elevated, generously equipped and supremely practical car to customers, at a price that substantially undercuts the established players,” Mr. Nidigallu said.

“The all-new cabin echoes the premium ambience of the Touareg and Tiguan, with high-quality materials and contemporary design. The breadth of standard features, safety and infotainment technology, even on the entry Life grade, has been delivered at extremely competitive price points.”

“Our goal is for the all-new Tayron to be even more elevated than the model it replaces, while being attainable to a degree that is likely to surprise and delight customers, particularly when cross-shopping Tayron against its mainstream rivals.”
