Citroën launches flagship C5 X crossover

CITROËN CONTINUES ITS AUSTRALIAN MARKET expansion with the introduction of the all-new C5 X to its local model range.

This latest example of the large passenger Citroën, which will be sold here in just one highly specified model grade, follows in the footsteps of such legendary cars as the DS, XM and CX.

Like so many of its forebears, the new Citroën C5 X bristles with innovation and boasts unrivalled comfort courtesy of the Citroën Advanced Comfort Program focusing on two areas, ride and comfort, through its Citroën Advanced Comfort Seats and Citroën Advanced Comfort Suspension.

New C5 X boasts unrivalled ride comfort through the use of Progressive Hydraulic Cushion suspension and, inside, seats designed to give lounge-like comfort in the spacious passenger compartment.

C5 X bolsters the local Citroën range with a unique and compelling product, sporting a totally new body style which is sure to expand its customer base.

A little difficult to categorise, but Citroen call it a “crossover”

An original design, it employs a completely different styling philosophy in the large premium car segment; a unique vehicle delivering an avant-garde body shape combining sedan elegance, ride and handling with wagon versatility and an SUV’s elevated stance.

The seamless blending of the three design elements is reflected in the long sedan-style bonnet and raked windscreen, the large wagon-like boot and the raised driving position, all combining to create an original styling experience.

The styling is further enhanced with distinctive V-shaped front and rear lighting signatures, making the newcomer instantly recognisable as a Citroën, the package underscored with 19-inch diameter diamond cut alloy wheels.

Other features of this latest Citroën include the windscreen projected Extended Head-Up Display (e-HUD), a 12-inch, high-definition touchscreen with ambient backlighting, electrically adjustable driver and front passenger seats, a panoramic opening glass roof and a formidable array of active safety features, some new to the brand.

For the first time, Citroën buyers will be able to experience Connected Services, or an internet-connected vehicle to help with a range of navigation tasks. This includes live carpark space availability, locating fuel outlets and fuel price, with live traffic routing, internet enabled map searching and map updates, as well as warning of speed camera locations and accident danger zones. Connected Services also enable advanced native voice recognition for all navigation searches and vehicle functions.

Connected Services require a subscription through the Citroën website or the myCitroën app and is free for three years from vehicle warranty start date. Customers have the option to purchase additional incremental one- or three-year extensions to the complimentary three-year period.

C5 X’s mechanical motivation is provided by Citroën’s critically acclaimed PureTech 180 petrol engine, a turbocharged 1.6-litre, four-cylinder unit delivering133kW of power at 5500rpm and 250Nm of torque at 1650rpm. It is paired with an eight-speed Efficient Automatic Transmission (EAT8) for both smooth shifting and performance.

Certainly a niche market player, but very stylish

Citroën Australia Managing Director, Kate Gillis, says new C5 X, with its fresh and innovative styling, powerful and economic drivetrain, and strong standard equipment list, boasts impressive buyer appeal that will further expand the brand’s Australian growth opportunities.

“This latest addition to our Australian range not only bolsters our model line-up but also provides a unique and compelling product offering with the return to the touring segment – a car that connects to classic Citroëns such as the Traction Avant.”

“C5 X truly underscores the brand’s design DNA and will appeal to those discerning Australian drivers keen to travel in absolute comfort and style. It also gives us the opportunity to engage with both new and existing Citroën audiences,” Ms Gillis added.

“The C5 X is a unique offering in the market, either in terms of its visual appeal and dimensions, its versatility or in the way it combines the most advanced comfort features with the latest technologies to deliver unrivalled comfort and serenity.

“Indeed, in true Citroën tradition, the all-new C5 X is a one-of-a-kind car,” she concluded.

Citroën C5 X is on sale now and priced at $57,670 (plus on road costs).
