Civic Type R completes Honda Civic range in Australia

THE HONDA CIVIC TYPE R has long (and justifiably) been a favourite with driving enthusiasts for many years. The Type R is the pinnacle of Honda factory performance, and the all-new 2023 Honda Civic Type R continues that legacy. Building on 25 years of ultimate hot hatch performance, Type R has been engineered to deliver a thrilling performance and driving experience.

This vehicle officially completes the new generation Civic family in Australia, with the Civic VTi LX being introduced into the market in late 2021, followed by the Civic e:HEV LX and now the all-new Civic Type R.

Based on the all-new 11th generation Civic Hatchback, the 2023 Civic Type R embodies Honda’s challenging spirit, leveraging its deep roots in competition with racetrack-proven engineering that maximizes performance without sacrificing Type R’s civilized road manners.

A significantly more rigid body structure supports both improved dynamics and refinement. Civic Type R’s scalpel-sharp responses and famously addictive driving feel are increased even further by enhanced suspension and steering performance. The upgraded Brembo braking system gives the driver a rock-solid sense of control and stability. Four driving modes, including a new Individual mode, enable drivers to truly customize the driving experience.

The new Civic Type R combines its class-leading, track-ready performance with a sleeker, more sophisticated look which beautifully integrates advanced aerodynamics for a powerful low and wide form. Its muscular exterior is more aerodynamically efficient, generating significantly more downforce to improve high speed stability.

The cockpit of the new Type R enhances the exhilaration of driving with emotive, performance-focused details and features including Type R’s iconic red seats, aluminium shift knob, and a serialized Type R plate on the dash. The instrument panel features a metal honeycomb panel, a high-quality styling detail that serves both form and function by also concealing the air vents.

A heavily updated version of the Honda LogR data logger will be available for this new generation of Civic Type R, combining performance data from the onboard computer and in-car sensors with a new built-in vehicle app, rather than just the smartphone app available on the previous model. LogR helps drivers monitor and record a variety of performance parameters in real time when driving on the track or other closed courses, helping to improve driving skills.

Honda Australia places a great importance and assurance in a suite of safety features to be included in every model launch. The all-new Civic Type R is no exception to this, as its Honda SENSING suite provides active safety features including Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keep Assist System to Road Departure Mitigation System.

Honda Connect comes with 5 years of complimentary Honda Connect telematics services and is also included with the Type R, as an innovative mobile application feature that allows customers to access vehicle information and interact with their vehicle via a Telematics Control Unit (TCU).

But here comes the bad news.

The price has risen by a steep $12,000 to $72,600 driveaway. And the waiting list is expected to be as long as two years.
