Collecting Cars sets new record for classic sales

WITH THE DRAMATIC INCREASE in the value of classic cars, it was inevitable that people would see the business potential and take advantage of it.

Collecting Cars, the leading global online platform for the sale of classic, performance and collectible cars, has launched into 2024 with some outstanding numbers, and some equally outstanding cars.

Australian sales

Collecting Cars achieved a record sales year in Australia during 2023. The company’s fast-growing Sydney-based consignment team guided sales of more than $AU40 million in collectible cars and motorcycles via its online classifieds and auction facilities.

Highlights include a 2020 Ferrari 488 Pista finished in Argento Nürburgring, which sold for $AU850,000, and a 2017 Lamborghini Aventador LP740-4 S which was snapped up for $AU742,000.

An array of European classics (from brands like Porsche, Maserati and Mercedes-Benz), racing homologation specials (which included various Group A Holden Commodores and a 1986 Ford Sierra RS Cosworth), and modern rarities (such as a 2015 Jaguar F-Type Project 7) characterised the impressive catalogue of cars.

New Zealand

Collecting Cars has started injecting excitement and momentum into New Zealand’s collector car community with the recent sales of some outstanding machinges.

Headlining them was a rare 2008 Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Roadster, which its new owner secured with a winning bid of $NZ569,388.

Other modern sports machines included a 1998 Type-993 Porsche 911 Turbo and a 2016 AMG GT Coupe.

Notable classics were a Ferrari 512 BBi with rare Zegna cloth trim, and a 1973 Jaguar E-Type Series 3 V12 Roadster project car.

Edward Lovett, Founder and CEO of Collecting Cars, said, “Australia and New Zealand have been quick to embrace Collecting Cars because our process considers what’s important to both buyers and sellers of collector cars: cost, simplicity and convenience.”

Record event registrations

Sydney’s Rosehill Gardens Racecourse will host Australia’s next Coffee Run on Sunday 4 February (8am to 11am). More than 1000 collector and classic cars are currently registered to attend, with more likely in the coming fortnight. Amongst them are many rarities, such as these:

  • Porsche 918 Spyder
  • Lamborghini Aventador SVJ
  • Porsche Type-997 911 GT3 RS 4.0

Collecting Cars’ Edward Lovett and TV presenter Chris Harris will be amongst the cars and passionate fans at both events.

Chris Harris commented, “One of the best parts of Australian and New Zealand car culture is their variety of machinery. It’s so vibrant. JDM specials, European exotica, local muscle cars; it’s all there. Everyone is invited so make sure you come along.”

Established in 2019, Collecting Cars now boasts more than 120,000 registered members and has sold more than 14,000 lots totalling more than $AU1 billion.
