IT’S BECOMING HARD TO KEEP track of the number of backflips and reversals by various governments over electric vehicle incentives. They seem to be coming with a rush.
The Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries has today welcomed the latest change, a commitment from senior NSW Government Ministers to backdate refunds and claim rebates if legislation underpinning the NSW Government’s Electric Vehicle Strategy passes in its entirety once NSW Parliament returns.
Chief Executive of the FCAI Tony Weber thanked Ministers Perrottet, Constance and Kean for engaging with industry amidst the pandemic to provide confidence for both manufacturers and consumers.
“This announcement gives certainty that rebate claims worth $3000 and stamp duty refunds will be able to be accessed retrospectively from 1 September 2021, providing the NSW parliament passes the legislation in its entirety. I’d like to thank members of the Government for working with us on this.
“The NSW Government EV Strategy has the potential to deliver a financial reform and automotive incentive package that sets the precedent for other Governments to follow in its drive to increase electric vehicle uptake,“ Mr Weber said.
