Mahindra upgrades its PikUp

THE UTE THAT started offering bargain-basement pricing before the Chinese even thought of it has now come in for a (gentle) upgrade.

Dependable, tough and value for money has always been the Mahindra mantra and the PikUp offers more of the same with a raft of refinements, including new signature front grille that enhances its tough signature stance, contemporary static bending projection headlamps and daylight running LEDs, with new fog light assembly.

The New Generation PikUp takes both city and tough off-road tracks in its stride with its benchmark 34-degree approach angle. The sturdy and heavy-duty ladder frame chassis can carry a payload of up to 1095 kgs with a 2.5 tonnes braked towing capacity.

Mahindra models its new signature front grille. We doubt many people will notice

The 103kW, 2.2 Litre common rail intercooled turbo diesel engine produces a peak torque of 320Nm. With a robust design in collaboration with AVL Austria and backed by Bosch Engine Management system, the mHawk engine provides proven reliability and notable fuel efficiency. The engine valve train is driven by a twin timing chain system, so there are no expensive belts to replace under maintenance. The 6-speed manual gearbox with Dana Spicer axles and Eaton self-locking differential adds to the driving pleasure both on city roads and tough off-road tracks.

The original Mahindra PikUp launched in Australia in 2007 has been plying the roads and back country of Australia for thirteen years, building a trusted and solid reputation as a reliable, rugged and value for money ute for the Australian market. Over 500,000 PikUps and Scorpio SUVs have been sold globally since the launch of the original Scorpio in 2002.

Mahindra call this “plush”. We call it practical and serviceable

The upgrade, with its aggressively styled exteriors and plush (well, comparatively speaking!) interiors includes a complete overhaul of the Mahindra PikUp’s aesthetics, with specific emphasis on the front-end styling. The vehicle comes in two specification levels, S6+, which provides function and value and the S10+, which offers a more SUV-like-specification. S6+ now features standard cruise control, Bluetooth phone connection an upgraded fabric seats including arm rests and drivers side height adjustment. S10+ features upgraded 7inch touch screen with high resolution reverse camera and Satellite Navigation as standard.

New for 2020 is a factory available Pastoral Pack to suit rural, trade and fleet buyers.  This bundles winch-compatible steel bull bar with bash plate, new side brush rails, snorkel and tow bar, canvas seat covers and vinyl floor for an extremely capable off road 4×4, for $35,990 Drive Away with standard GPA (General Purpose Aluminium) Tray.  Customers can choose many upgrade options including galvanised steel and colour coded trays along with many other factory accessories to complete the vehicle to their desire. Mahindra continues to target fleet buyers in mining, construction and government applications.

The PikUp is backed by a factory five-year, 100,000km limited warranty, five-year roadside assist and four-year, 55,000km capped price service program.
