Nissan comes out swinging with new Navara from $33,890

NISSAN’S NEW NAVARA IS SURE TO turn a few heads with its rugged new styling, upgraded safety and a raft of driver-assist technologies. A potent and premium PRO-4X Dual Cab variant now headlines the 2021 line-up.

Designed and built to perform in any situation, whether work or recreation, the new Navara further raises the bar in the fiercely competitive Australian ute market.

Seven airbags, Intelligent Forward Collision Warning and Intelligent Emergency Braking are standard equipment across all models, thanks to the advanced Nissan Intelligent Mobility systems, along with the latest infotainment technology.

Range has been simplified to four grades

The range has also been simplified to four key grades, with safety, engineering and technology upgrades also introduced.

Available in 4X2 and 4X4 drivetrain variants across three cab styles — Single, King and Dual Cab – customers will have the option of a six-speed manual gearbox or seven-speed automatic transmission with Pickup or Cab Chassis configurations. All models now have 17-inch wheels as a minimum, and a range of driver-alert systems.

The popular Dual Cab Navara gains an increased payload capacity to a minimum of 1-tonne. The Pickup bed has a larger volume, and Dual Cab models feature enhanced brakes and a strengthened rear axle to maintain performance under higher payloads. An integrated step is also featured in the rear bumper of Pickup models.

3.5-tonne towing capacity will be a big selling feature

As towing capability is a fundamental market requirement in Australia, the new Navara is now fitted with trailer-sway control as standard across all models, and a towbar is fitted as standard equipment on all ST-X and PRO-4X models.

A tough design language defines the new Navara’s market presence. It’s an imposing look that sets it apart from the competition with a roomy, wide-bodied cabin appearance, enlarged front-wheel arches, an interlocked frame grille and on ST models and above, high-tech C-shaped quad LED projector headlamps combine to provide an unmistakable and distinctive identity.

Nissan Australia’s Managing Director Stephen Lester said the improvements and upgrades on the new Navara continue to underpin its place as a key player in the Australian market.

“There is no more competitive ute market in the world than Australia and the latest Navara continues to build on a package that’s trusted and respected by owners across the country,” he says.

“With a rugged new design, a broad array of new Nissan Intelligent Mobility safety features as standard and increased capability on and off-road, this is definitely the toughest and smartest Nissan Navara yet. Regardless of whether you’re loading materials, towing your van or at school pick up, the new Navara is certain to exceed your needs as an extremely capable and refined vehicle.”

Gutsy 2.3-litre diesel engine, offered with either single or twin turbo

The engine for the Navara range is the torquey 2.3-litre common-rail four-cylinder diesel, offered in both single and twin turbo, with the latter now offered across more models. The single turbo for the new entry-level Navara SL produces 120kW and 403Nm, while the twin turbo produces 140kW and 450Nm from as low as 1500rpm. Towing capacity is rated at 3.5 tonnes braked and 750kg unbraked.

All Navara cabins have a new 7.0-inch Advanced Drive-Assist instrument cluster display, with a high-contrast 8.0-inch touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. The steering wheel has been redesigned, and seat trims further upgraded with leather-accented features available on ST-X and above.

Well-equipped, comfortable cabin

Digital radio is standard on the ST grade and above. Two new premium paint colours have been added. Forged Copper has been added across King Cab and Dual Cab Pickup models, while Stealth Grey is exclusive to the PRO-4X.

Nissan has also introduced the PRO-4X, which provides enhanced features, styling, interior comfort and capabilities.

Available only as a Dual Cab Pickup with either a manual or automatic transmission, the PRO-4X sits above the ST-X variant, as a “halo” model that incorporates the design features, styling and refinements demanded by buyers at the premium end of the utility market.
